Different Understandings of Justice Throughout History

According to the Public Relations Office of the Islamic Propagation Office of the Qom Seminary, Professor Najaf Lakzaei, President of Islamic Sciences and Culture Academy, stated in the scientific series of meetings titled “Dilemmas of Governance” that, so far, discussions on governance have shown that good is the minister of reason, and evil is the minister of ignorance. In other words, in our individual, social, and civilizational life, we can follow a path arising either from reason and innate disposition (fitrah) or from ignorance and a corrupted disposition. Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said that reason manifests in good, and ignorance manifests in evil.

He continued: if a society produces good deeds, know that reason governs; if a country produces evil deeds, know that ignorance and jahiliyah (ignorance) rule—where jahiliyah refers to all forms of material and spiritual disorder.

He added: the Imam said that goodness is a sign of faith and belief in God because goodness manifests from God. A rational and good person is a believer who hopes for the mercy of God, while a person who engages in wrongdoing, having severed their connection with God, has also lost hope in Allah mercy.
